ABA therapists must have specific credentials, such as a Master’s degree accredited by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). They must also have obtained their Applied Behavior Analysis (BCBA) certification and have the requisite experience to do their job. ABA therapy sessions occur in person, usually one-on-one, between a practitioner and a patient. The location of these sessions can vary depending on the service provider. Traditionally, families could only access this treatment in a clinic or community-based setting. Every state in the U.S. must provide its residents with some form of coverage for autism treatment, although not all offer the same amount. Generally, most families are entitled to $20,000 – $50,000 annually. But again, this can vary wildly depending on where you live and who your insurance is with.
